One can still detect the remnants of traditional perspectival diminution and modeling in the scaffolding of charcoal drawing, but the Renaissance system of representation now appears in a state of disarray. Arbitrarily fragmented contours and contradictory areas of modeling no longer form a coherent or rationalized view of nature."
