About (Difficult)

Kurt Schwitters was a German artist who worked in various genres and with various media. He is best remembered for his Merz pictures, or collages. Though much of the lithograph has faded with time, some of the original components can still be seen today. One example of this is his work Autumn which dates from 1942-43. In creating this piece, Schwitters made use of natural materials such as wood, stone, and shell fragments – a process that helped cement his place in art history.

Though most famous for his collages, Kurt Schwitters also created other works, such as the 1922 painting ‘Blauer Vogel’ (Blue Bird). This work merged elements of Surrealism and Cubism to form a snapshot into the surrealistic landscapes Schwitters inhabited throughout his career. These contributions continue to influence modern art practices and inspire new generations to express their creativity through these unique forms. By combining elements from different genres and mediums, Schwitters created works that remain iconic even today.
