Vincent Van Gogh – Artwork & Bio of the Dutch Painter

Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch painter born on 30 March 1853 in Groot-Zundert, the Netherlands. After abandoning formal education in 1868, Vincent apprenticed at an art dealing firm in Paris – Goupil & Cie – and eventually became an art dealer. He decided to be an artist in 1880 and returned to his parent’s home the following year to teach himself to draw. Van Gogh shortly moved to the Hague, where he studied under Anton Mauve.

Mental and psychological problems plagued van Gogh’s career, and he barely achieved financial success. However, he exhibited with successful artists such as Paul Gaugin, Paul Signac, and Georges Seurat. Van Gogh’s artistic output peaked toward the end of his life, averaging almost a painting a day in his last days. He died on 29 July 1890 in  Auvers-Sur-Oise, France.
