About Spring (or The Flower Girls)

The painting “The Flower Girls” or “Spring” by Francisco Goya, depicts a young woman holding a girl’s hand receiving a rose from another girl, while a man behind them attempts to surprise the woman with a rabbit. The original sketch showed a mother receiving the rose and her daughter noticing the man approaching with a dead hare, but this was changed in the final painting. The piece is located in the Prado Museum in Madrid. Notably, there is also an early sketch measuring 34.2 x 23.9 cm located in a private collection which differs from the final product.

Despite being created two centuries ago, “The Flower Girls” remains immensely popular among art enthusiasts worldwide because of its beautiful imagery that captures youthful exuberance against nature during springtime.
