About Paul Levy

Howard Hodgkin’s “Paul Levy” is an oil painting on wood that measures 20 7/8 x 23 3/4 inches. The artwork, created between 1976 and 1980, depicts the renowned food writer and art critic who was a friend of the artist. Interestingly, Hodgkin also made a bust of Levy in 1976-77.

While primarily known for his painting, Hodgkin did create prints as well, including a silkscreen titled “Enter Laughing” in 1964. Another notable piece by Hodgkin is the abstract expressionist-style painting “Untitled”, which he painted in the same year as “Paul Levy”.

In fact, Paul Levy played such a significant role in Hodgkin’s life that he was also featured as part of the National Portrait Gallery’s “Howard Hodgkin: Absent Friends” exhibition in London back in 2017.

It’s worth noting that one Bust of Paul Levy was sold at auction in 2018 as part of a prominent private collection. For those interested in acquiring more information or requesting a condition report about this fascinating artwork by Howard Hodgkin featuring Paul Levy, contact [email protected].
