About Agony

One of six children exhibited by Egon Schiele in October 1912 was titled Agony and it is remembered as one of his most potent works. Egon Schiele was born on June 12th, 1890 and his talent is prominently displayed in his iconic Expressionist art. This particular painting stands out compared to the other three hundred oil paintings and thousands of works on paper he produced throughout his lifetime. His artwork exudes an intensity that can be seen in each brushstroke, which makes it so captivating.

Agony, or Over and the Maiden, is a unique piece that expresses a wide range of emotions with its lines and colors. The vivid details suggest a story which combines sadness, pain, longing and tenderness all in one. In its own way, this artwork brings together conflicting worlds into harmony; it’s no surprise it’s been so well-regarded over the decades by art critics and artists alike.

The last painting we will explore is Mrs. Joshua Montgomery Sears painted by John Singer Sargent in 1899. This work already belonged to various American collections when it was first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1900; it’s a testament to Sargent’s skill at crafting dynamic figures with luminous colors – something he has become well-known for amongst art lovers around the world today.
