Caravaggio Biography and Artwork

Caravaggio was a prominent Italian painter born in Milan in 1571. He lost his parents at a young age and grew up under the care of his maternal grandfather. Caravaggio received training in Milan before moving to Rome where he gained recognition for his works.

Although Caravaggio was known for creating masterpieces, his personal life wasn’t as flawless. He had an unpredictable nature and would pick fights over minor issues leading him into trouble on multiple occasions. His violent temper eventually led to him being sentenced to death for murder, forcing him to flee to Naples.

Caravaggio used live models and unconventional lighting techniques that were new for the time, causing many critics to criticize his work. However, this style was referred to as Baroque and revolutionary as it showed realism in religious works.

Despite passing away at the age of 39, Caravaggio’s artworks continue inspiring artists till this day due to its unique qualities and artistry.
