Roy Lichtenstein was an American painter born on 27 October 1923 in New York. Roy was born into a comfortable family, and his parents supported his artistic ambitions. As a teenager, he received art instructions at the Parsons School of Design. Afterward, Lichtenstein attended the Arts Students League and the Ohio State University.

Lichtenstein held his first solo show at Carlebach Gallery in New York in 1951, showing a series of artworks made with wood, metal, and scraps. The following year, John Heller Gallery started representing his works. Roy also worked as an assistant professor of art at several colleges. His exhibition at Leo Castelli’s gallery marked the start of a successful era spanning into the 1990s for the artist. Lichtenstein died on 29 September 1997.
