The artwork titled “Adoración de la estatua de oro y los tres jóvenes en el horno,” created by the artist known as Ende around the year 975, represents a remarkable example of the Mozarabic art movement. This miniature belongs to the “Gerona Beatus” series and vividly illustrates a biblical scene featuring the adoration of a golden statue and the ordeal of the three young men in the fiery furnace.
In the artwork, the upper section portrays a large golden statue with stylized features, at which a group of figures bows in reverence. Their prostration appears ordered and synchronized, demonstrating a collective act of worship. Below, another scene is depicted where three young men are shown in a fiery furnace. A larger, serene figure resembling an angel or divine being stands behind them, seemingly protecting or blessing them. The scene on the left shows an enthroned ruler, possibly Nebuchadnezzar, pointing towards the furnace where the three young men stand amidst flames yet unharmed, symbolizing divine intervention. The composition employs vibrant hues and stark contrasts, characteristic of Mozarabic illumination, to convey the dramatic narrative and its theological implications.
