“Second Wind,” created by James Turrell in 2005, belongs to the Light and Space and Environmental (Land) Art movements and is an installation piece from the Skyspaces series.
The artwork features a meticulously designed space where the viewer can experience an interplay of natural light and architecture. The composition centers around a circular opening in the ceiling, through which a segment of the sky is visible. This creates a space that alters one’s perception of light and color depending on the time of day and weather conditions. The inner wall of the structure is smoothly contoured, further enhancing the perception of boundlessness and infinity. The transition of light and shadow in this installation induces a meditative, contemplative state, drawing attention to the celestial view framed above.
