“Torqued Ellipses” is an installation artwork created by Richard Serra, representative of the Minimalism art movement.
The artwork consists of large, imposing steel structures that form curved, elliptical shapes which are bent and twisted, creating a dynamic interaction between space and viewer. The rust-colored steel surfaces, combined with the scale of the structures, evoke a sense of both solidity and fluidity. Viewers are encouraged to walk around and within the ellipses, experiencing varying perspectives and spatial relationships. The seamless flow and complex geometry of the installation challenge traditional perceptions of form and space, embodying the Minimalist emphasis on simplicity and interaction.
