Juan Gris was a Spanish painter and sculptor who was born in 1887 in Madrid, Spain. He is known for his role in the development of Cubism, a groundbreaking art movement that revolutionized the way artists approached representation of space and form. Gris was heavily influenced by his friend and mentor, Pablo Picasso, and his work often featured geometric shapes, bold colors, and a fragmented depiction of objects. He tragically passed away in 1927 at the young age of 40, but his contributions to the art world continue to be celebrated and studied to this day.
